Deputies from the Mason County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Mason County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded to a reported shooting at 6 p.m. Friday in the Cain Ridge/Tribble Road area of Leon.
After arriving at the scene, officers found the victim, Michael Lee Ward of Millwood, with gunshot wounds to his right chest area and right hand. Officers determined that the suspect, David E. Maynard, had shot Ward with a 12 gauge shotgun.
According to the sheriff’s department report, the incident occurred over a dispute. Ward’s injuries were not disclosed by authorities. No charges have been filed at this point against Maynard. The incident is still under investigation.
