Several new events have been added to this year’s festival, including the inaugural Mothman 5K run/walk. The event is slated to take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.
The 3.1 mile race will begin on Main St. across from Tu-Endie-Wei State Park, run through town and end at the Mothman Statue, located at Gunn Park. The event is open to all ages. Serious runners, joggers and walkers are all welcome to participate. Prizes will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers as well as the top age group winners. Age groups are: 19 and under; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; and 50 plus. All participants will receive a post-race goody bag. In addition, the first 50 entrants will receive a t-shirt.
Hope Roush, Mothman 5K director, encouraged everyone to take part in the event.
“I hope the community comes out to support the first-ever Mothman 5K. The race is designed to be a fun event and we welcome all participants from competitive runners to those who wish to walk,” Roush said. “We hope to see everyone out on Sept. 18 for the 5K and the Mothman Festival. It will be a great time to get in some exercise as well as enjoy what the festival has to offer.”
Daniel Roush, Mothman 5K co-director, also encouraged residents to participate. He described the 5K as an effort to help the Mothman Festival grow.
“The Mothman Festival is a great event and brings a lot of people to Point Pleasant each year. We wanted to introduce another activity for the festival with the Mothman 5K,” he said.
Race registration will take place at 7:30 a.m. at the start line. Entry forms are available at the Point Pleasant Ohio Valley Bank Branch, Point Pleasant Register office, Pleasant Valley Hospital Wellness Center and Harris Steak House.
